Last fall when we started thinking about this project, we realized that we would probably have to consider replacing the 17 year old 'electric' hot water heater that works perfectly but would have to be moved to do the tile work. This started us thinking about the new tankless systems. After much research, the electric ones just didn't make any sense and the other is gas so we would have to convert to that ( we have natural gas already at the house). We had come to the conclusion that this was really out of our budget and we would just get a new electric one.
Fast forward to last Monday...I was on Craig's List looking around and found a gas tankless hot water heater that someone was selling($375). They had only had it a couple of months and had to relocate and he was selling it (I think because he needed the $$). We met with the plumber about where we would put it (it goes outside) and the cost and then he and Brent went to the house and removed it!
Friday, he came back to install it and after it got hooked up it was determined that one of the interior copper pipes had an unseen crack in it (since we have had such freezing temps this winter and he had the water cut off is probably why it cracked and probably unknown to him). Brent called Rheem and found out that he had never registered it and it was still under warranty and they would send someone out on Monday.
Monday...Brent got the call and the guy determined over the phone that they would replace it so yesterday I picked up our brand new hot water heater! :-)
